(FRIDAY MORNING - RAY’s APARTMENT)

“No, Ray you are not coming along and that is final” stated Molly Gunn to her nine year old charge in the most authoritative tone she could muster for what seemed like the hundredth time in the past hour.

“But that’s not fair Molly, I want to go with you” cried Ray Schleine as she stamped her foot on the ground.

Molly Gunn was getting frustrated, along with taking care of Ray she had also enrolled in a school for clothing/fashion design. Since designing outfits for both Mark McGrath and Neil Fox (and perhaps because of it) she had just learned a few weeks ago that Russ Dupree, (who although Molly herself didn’t personally care for but she recognized his influence in the fashion industry) one of the world’s most well known designers was going to give her a chance to show him some of her designs at his annual Ritz Carlton Hotel Fashion Show in the heart of New York City. She had arranged for her friend Ingrid to watch Ray for a few hours while she met with Mr. Dupree. However Ray wasn’t quite taking the news of spending the day at Ingrid’s apartment as well as Molly had expected.

“Ray sometimes life isn’t fair and we can’t always get to do everything we want to do” replied the frustrated twenty two year old as she brushed her long blonde hair until it was perfect.

“But it’s not fair…I don’t want to stay with Ingrid she is no fun” whined Ray stomping her feet and about to throw a full blown tantrum.

“Ray!” shouted Molly “Do you want a spanking, is that what you want?” she continued pointing at Ray with her hairbrush.

Ray shook her head no.

“Well then I suggest you calm yourself down and do what I say…” Molly continued coolly “Besides Ingrid can be fun, sometimes” she continued realizing Ray did have a point when it came to Ingrid’s demeanor.

“But she’s not fun like you, besides I don’t want to stay inside all day, I want to go the fashion show with you” complained Ray.

“We go out a lot Ray and besides there won’t be any other kids there today and I’m certainly not…” said Molly

“But it’s not fair” whined Ray cutting Molly off.

“Listen Ray, I’ve made up my mind and that’s final” said Molly looking Ray straight in the eye.

“Fine, nobody takes me anywhere…” said Ray “My mother never takes me along on any of her business trips (such as the one Roma had been on all week) and I guess you are just the same, I never get to go anywhere” she continued knowing how just to tug at Molly’s heart.

“Your mother never takes you on any of her trips?” asked Molly as she knelt down besides Ray although she already knew the answer.

“Nope” replied Ray as she looked at her nanny with the saddest face she could muster.

“Fine, you can come along” Molly groaned giving into her charge.

“Thank you Molly, you are the best and I promise I won’t be any trouble I…” said an elated Ray Schleine as she threw her arms around Molly’s neck and gave her a dozen kisses.

“But first you and I are going to have a little talk Ray Schleine” said Molly interrupting Ray and taking her in hand as she lead her towards the living room couch.

“About what?” asked a curious Ray as she sat on the couch looking up at Molly who stood in front of her.

“Ray do you know what the words privilege and responsibility mean?” Molly asked her nine year old charge.

“Sure” said Ray “I’m privileged because I live on Fifth Avenue and the people who live in the Bronx aren’t” she continued.

“Not exactly Ray…” Molly said with a laugh as she tousled Ray’s hair “A privilege is something granted to you that is not a right, it is a privilege that I am allowing you to attend this fashion show with me today understood?” she continued.

Ray nodded her head yes.

“Responsibility means in this case that you are responsible and old enough to handle the privilege that you are being granted understood?” Molly continued

Ray again nodded her head yes.

“Also if you cause me any trouble or if I even hear a peep out of you today I will spank you so hard Ray that you will remember it for a long long time understood?” said Molly in calm but serious tone.

“Don’t worry Molly, I’ll be good you won’t even know I’m there I promise” chirped Ray.

“Okay then let me just call Ingrid and we’ll be on our way” said Molly walking towards the kitchen

Once Molly was out of sight Ray grabbed her little red bouncing ball (the same ball Molly had taken away from her earlier in the week for bouncing it around the apartment near the expensive glass furniture) from Molly’s “not so secret hiding place” and slipped it into her own small purse.

(RITZ CARLTON HOTEL – 3 pm)

*I hope I look alright* Molly Gunn thought to herself as she escorted Ray through the hotel foyer. Molly was dressed in a beautiful light pink outfit with prints of butterfly and leaves on it which would normally make her the hit of her social circle but at least in her mind paled in comparison to some of the outfits that other women were wearing in the hotel.

“There’s Mister Dupree…you wait here Ray” said Molly Gunn as she spotted the designer mingling among several other distinguished gentlemen in the hotel foyer.

“Excuse me, Mister Dupree” said Molly interrupting the conversation

“Yes” he replied with an arrogant tone in his voice.

“My name is Molly Gunn and you called me earlier this week expressing interests in my designs” chirped Molly excitedly.

“Ah yes weren’t you the one who designed those outfits for those rock stars on TV weren’t you, I was very impressed” he continued

“I sure am” replied an elated Molly realizing what Mr. Dupree’s endorsement could mean to her career.

“and you no doubt are impressed with my work as well” he continued with an arrogant chuckle

“Oh yes” replied Molly.

“I thought you said when it came to fashion Molly, you said this guy didn’t know his ass from his el…” chirped Ray as she horned in on the conversation.

Molly quickly put her hand over Ray’s mouth to silence her.

“Never mind her Mister Dupree” said an embarrassed Molly “She hasn’t had her medication yet and doesn’t know what she’s saying” she continued as she lead Ray away from the adults.

“My medication?” asked a confused Ray Schleine as she was escorted away from the crowd.

Molly knelt down on the floor so she could look Ray dead in the eye.

“One more comment like that Ray and you’ll be over my knee I swear” hissed Molly to her nine year old charge.

“Okay Molly I’m sorry” said Ray who wanted to avoid being spanked at all costs.

“Nevertheless, when the adults go into the conference room I want you to stay out here, keep quiet and not cause anymore trouble understood” asked Molly

“But that’s not fair I want to see the fashion show” whined Ray stamping her feet and beginning to pout

“Enough Ray, I’m serious” hissed Molly.

“Fine besides Molly you were wrong about their not being any other kids here” said Ray gesturing to a boy about her age standing with his back turned towards her.

“Whatever, you just stay out here with him and don’t cause me any more trouble today Ray Schleine” warned Molly as she walked away from Ray to follow the other adults into the conference room.

After her nanny was out of sight Ray stuck her tongue her out at her as she didn’t like being treated like a child. She knew this fashion show would at least be a few hours and now she was stuck out here in the hotel foyer bored and with nothing to do.

She then noticed that the boy she had noticed earlier much like her had not entered the conference room. Maybe kids just aren’t allowed in there she thought. Either way she had nothing to do so she thought she might as well introduce herself to him.

“Hi” said Ray tapping the boy on his shoulder.

When the boy turned around Ray’s smile quickly turned to a frown when she realized who it was. It was Thurston Dugray. (or Thurston Dugray the third as he insisted on being called) Although Ray went to an all girls school twice a year they went on trips with a neighboring all boys school and Thurston Dugray was one of the most spoiled, arrogant and stuck up kids she knew and she hated him with a passion.

“Ewww its Ray Slime” responded the arrogant youngster displaying that the contempt was mutual

It was going to be a long afternoon Ray thought to herself.

(Twenty minutes later - INSIDE THE CONFERENCE ROOM)

Molly Gunn sat watching the other designers present Mr. Dupree with their designs. She was so enthralled with the models and the designers that she had not realized that Mr. Dupree had sat down next to her.

“Miss Gunn…that little girl you brought with you today, is she yours?” asked Mr. Dupree

“No I’m just her nanny” replied Molly blushing still slightly embarrassed due to Ray’s earlier comments.

“She is a very cute and precocious child” stated Mr. Dupree.

“Yes if only she would learn to keep her mouth shut once in a while” replied Molly with a laugh.

“Either way you are up next, are you ready to present Miss Gunn?” asked Mr. Dupree

“I sure am” replied Molly with a smile.

(OUTSIDE THE CONFERENCE ROOM)

“Quit It!” cried Ray as Thurston kept poking her shoulder.

For the past twenty minutes Thurston had made fun of Ray, pulled her hair and now was intent on poking her on the shoulder but whenever Ray would turn around he would quickly stop and pretend like he wasn’t doing anything.

“Whats wrong Ray Slime” taunted Thurston.

“Its Schleine” replied Ray trying to keep her cool

“Slime…Slime…Slime” stated Thurston in a sing song fashion.

“You are so annoying…” replied Ray “Why don’t you just jump off a cliff?” she asked angrily.

“Give me a kiss” stated Thurston puckering his lips in a taunting manner.

“Ewww yuck!” cried Ray trying to distance herself from Thurston.

Ray grabbed the small red ball out of her purse and began to bounce it on the marble floor. If Thurston was going to be so annoying then she would just have to occupy herself until her nanny returned she thought.

“Whats that you go there” asked Thurston

“None of your B.I. business” responded Ray sticking her tongue out at him.

“Can I have it” he asked trying to grab the small ball away from Ray.

“No its mine” squealed Ray holding on tight to the ball.

“What you are afraid if you bounce the ball around and make too much noise that your nanny will spank you?” taunted Thurston.

“No” responded Ray wondering if Thurston overheard her earlier conversation with Molly or he was just lucky with his guess.

(INSIDE THE CONFERENCE ROOM)

“And now Mr. Dupree, Miss Molly Gunn would like to show you some of her latest designs” the announcer spoke into the microphone as Molly stepped on the platform.

“You might remember Mr. Dupree that several of Miss Gunn’s designs have been worn by several musicians in various music videos in the past few months” the announcer stated. “It should also be noted that Miss Gunn is the daughter of the late rock star Tommy Gunn and has been around musicians her entire life and has the unique touch to capture the feel of an artist through designing their wardrobes” he continued

“Yes indeed” replied Mr. Dupree.

“Good afternoon everyone, Mr. Dupree you might remember this first outfit I designed for rock star Neil Fox’s video SHEETS OF EYGPTIAN COTTON” said Molly as she stepped up to the microphone and gestured to the model standing to the left of her.

“It is purple because purple is the color of rock and roll royalty and…”

(OUTSIDE THE CONFERENCE ROOM)

“Give it back” shouted Ray to Thurston Dugray who had finally managed to weasel the ball away from her in an angry tone (although low enough so that the people inside the conference wouldn’t hear her)

“Why don’t come and get it Ray Slime?” said Thurston holding the ball above Ray’s head

Ray tried to jump to reach the ball but unfortunately couldn’t quite get it.

“Ask nicely and I’ll give it back” said Thurston.

“No!” cried Ray getting frustrated.

“Say you love me and I’ll give you your stupid ball back” taunted Thurston holding the ball away from Ray Schleine’s grasp

“EWWW Yuck!” cried Ray.

“Well if you aren’t going to be nice I guess you will have to go fetch your stupid ball Ray Slime” said Thurston with an evil laugh as he cocked his arm back and threw the ball as hard as he could against the wall. Unfortunately for him he did not realized that a tall unstable pillar was propped up against the window near where he threw the ball.

(INSIDE THE CONFERENCE ROOM)

*Applause*

Molly Gunn beamed at her audience from the podium as she realized that not only Mr. Dupree but all the other designers were impressed with her fashion designs.

“Okay and now this outfit I designed for Mark Mc…” said Molly who was suddenly interrupted by a loud…

(OUTSIDE THE CONFERENCE ROOM)

*CRASH*

Upon the impact of the ball hitting the unstable pillar it sent it crashing through the window shattering glass all over the floor of the hotel foyer (Luckily the window that broke was only the back of a display window and therefore no glass was shattered onto the streets of New York)

Upon hearing the crash Thurston Dugray let out a scream and ran across the foyer. Unfortunately for him he was quite clumsy and tripped on the rug and fell right on his behind.

For her part Ray Schleine stood stunned frozen to her spot in shock not believing the mess that Thurston had just caused.

“What the hell is going on out here?” cried Mr. Dupree as he and a hoard of other adults came running out of the conference room to find the foyer of the Ritz Carlton hotel in a complete shambles with the window broken, glass shattered everywhere, Thurston Dugray crying to himself on the floor and Ray Schleine standing in the middle of it all.

“Ray are you okay?” cried a frantic Molly Gunn as she ran towards her young charge and gave her a hug Ray still a bit in shock nodded her head yes as she was embraced by her nanny.

“What the hell happened? “cried that hotel manager arriving on the scene noticing the shattered window and the general disarray of his hotel foyer.

“That’s what I’m trying to find out” replied a concerned Mister Dupree as he knelt down and noticed a small red ball lying among the glass.

“What is this?” he asked picking up the small ball.

“That’s my ball” responded Ray as Mister Dupree handed her the ball.

Molly Gunn’s eyes suddenly flashed with anger as she put two and two together and realized that it was Ray’s ball (the same ball she had taken away from her days earlier) that had caused this mess.

“Give me that” snapped Molly grabbing the ball from her young charge, placing it in her purse and trying hard to resist the urge to slap Ray across the face.

“I can’t believe this Ray Schleine I cannot believe this” Molly hissed at Ray.

“But I didn’t…” protested Ray realzing that she was in serious trouble.

“Shut Up” hissed Molly in a low tone so that only Ray could hear her.

“I’m sorry Mister Dupree and everyone and I will make sure that you are reimbursed for the damages to your hotel” stated Molly apologetically to the hotel manager as she grabbed Ray firmly by the hand.

“Miss Gunn…” stated Mr. Dupree.

“I’m sorry Mr. Dupree but I have to get this naughty little girl home, you can call me later this week I’m listed” Molly replied as she dragged Ray towards the door.

“Molly please…I didn’t do any…” cried Ray tears streaming down her face as her nanny angrily dragged her through the streets of New York City.

“Don’t even talk to me Ray…not a word.” commanded Molly as she walked towards Ray’s apartment with Ray trailing close behind.

“Molly Its not my fault” cried Ray continuing to cry

“I hope you had fun disobeying me today Ray Schleine because you are going to pay dearly for it now” hissed Molly as she shot her charge an angry glance

(RAY’s APARTMENT)

“Get in there” said Molly angrily as she pushed Ray through the doorway spanking the seat of Ray’s jeans a few times as they entered the apartment.

“Molly please stop” said Ray finally struggling free from her nanny’s grasp.

“You ruined everything today Ray…this was so important to me Ray and you ruined everything” said Molly crying to herself as she closed the door behind her.

“I didn’t do anything Molly please let me explain” said Ray clutching her stinging bottom which had been swatted several times since they had entered the apartment foyer.

“I don’t want to hear you excuses Ray” stated Molly angrily as she again took Ray in hand and dragged her to the bedroom swatting her behind along the way.

“Molly I didn’t do anything” cried Ray as the two entered the bedroom and Ray’s bedroom door whooshed shut.

“There is a broken window at the Ritz Carlton Hotel that seriously disputes that statement” responded Molly caustically.

“But it wasn’t my fault I didn’t break it” responded Ray stamping her feet on the floor.

“I don’t believe you Ray, how could you do this to me after my whole lecture about privilege and responsibility?” asked a frustrated Molly Gunn

“I didn’t break that window, Thurston did” explained Ray desperately tears streaming down her face (part due to the frustration that Molly didn’t believe her and partly due to the fear of being spanked)

“How dare you blame another child for something you did” cried Molly as she again swatted Ray’s rear “At least when I did something wrong when I was a kid I owned up to it” she continued angrily.

“I didn’t do anything wrong” shouted Ray at the top of her lungs.

“That’s it!” cried Molly as she pushed Ray onto her bed, pinned her down and began to spank the seat of Ray’s jeans as hard as she could.

<SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK>

“OWWW! Molly stop I didn’t do anything” cried Ray trying to protect her behind with her hands but that only served to make Molly angrier.

“How dare you lie to me on top of all this Miss Ray” shouted Molly as she pulled Ray up, sat herself down on Ray’s bed and dragged Ray’s across her lap.

“Nooo! Molly please” cried Ray tears streaming down her face.

“You stay silent young lady” commanded Molly as unbuttoned Ray’s jeans and lowered them to her knees.

“Ouch Molly Ouch it hurts” cried Ray bucking and kicking across her nanny’s lap.

“A spanking <SLAP> is supposed to <SLAP> hurt especially when its <SMACK> deserved <SLAP> like this one is, <WHACK> now where <SLAP> did <SMACK> you <SMACK> get <SPANK> that ball <SLAP> Ray <SPANK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> Schleine?” hissed Molly Gunn

“From under the couch…OWWW” cried Ray as she cried into her mattress as her nose ran like a river.

“I <SPANK> told you <SPANK> that you <SLAP> weren’t allowed <SLAP> to play <WHACK> with that ball <SLAP> anymore, <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> didn’t <SLAP> I Ray Schleine<SMACK> didn’t I?” <SMACK> asked Molly.

“Yes!” cried Ray as her room was filled with the sound of Molly’s hand smacking her behind.

“And <SMACK> then not only <SMACK> did you <WHACK> take <SMACK> the ball <SPANK> back without my <SLAP> permission <SLAP> but you used <SLAP> it to <SPANK> cause the <SPANK> disaster <SMACK> at the hotel <SMACK> today.” cried Molly.

“No I didn’t do anything I swear…I’m innocent” sobbed Ray.

“That’s it Ray I will not put up with your lies anymore” said Molly as she lowered Ray’s panties

“Noooo Molly Nooo!” cried Ray

“Maybe this will teach you to tell the truth” said Molly as she grabbed the long handled hairbrush from Ray’s nightstand and proceeded to paddle Ray’s bare behind with it.

<SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <WHACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK>

“Molly OWWW I can’t take anymore STOP OWWW” cried Ray sobbing non stop.

“How dare <SPANK> you blame <SLAP> another child <SMACK> for what you <SMACK> did today young lady <SPANK>“ stated Molly intent on giving Ray the spanking of her life as she began to paddle the crease Ray’s behind.

“I told you <SPANK> that you would get <SLAP> the spanking <SLAP> of your life <SMACK> if you caused any trouble <SLAP> today missy and I unlike you <SLAP> live up to my promises <SPANK>“

“I didn’t do anything it wasn’t my fault the window broke” sobbed Ray.

“Stop lying Ray” scolded Molly as she aimed several swats to Ray’s thighs causing the child to furiously kick her legs.

“Do you realize how much <SLAP> repairing <SMACK> that window <SMACK> is going to <SPANK> cost <SPANK> Do you realize Miss Ray <SPANK> how many people could <SLAP> have gotten hurt <SPANK> today <SLAP> because <SLAP> of <SMACK> what you <SLAP> did?” asked Molly Gunn

Ray however could not respond all she could do is sob into her mattress.

<SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK> <SLAP> <WHACK> <SMACK><SPANK>

“I am so <SLAP> disappointed <SMACK> in you <SPANK> Ray” said Molly as she wrapped up Ray’s spanking realizing that she was not going to get Ray to apologize for what she had done.

“Get off my lap” hissed Molly to Ray.

Ray quickly hopped off Molly’s lap and grabbed her red sore stinging behind as tears continued to stream down her face.

“How could you do this Molly…I didn’t do anything wrong” cried Ray between her sobs as she did the dance of the well spanked child.

“You deserved every spank you got today” said Molly noting that Ray’s behind was as red as an apple.

“I didn’t deserve anything I didn’t do anything wrong today, I behaved myself just like you said” shouted Ray.

“Bull” replied Molly angrily. “You have no idea what you cost me today Ray Schleine and besides that you don’t even care” she continued

“I’m not going to apologize for something I didn’t do” cried Ray as she pulled up her jeans and panties.

“Fine!” cried Molly angrily “Then I don’t want anything to do with you for the rest of the day young lady, you can stay in your room, you can go to bed, I don’t care, just don’t come near me or talk to me” stated a livid Molly Gunn as she exited Ray’s room slamming the door behind her.

“Fine!” cried Ray as she collapsed on her bed and sobbed into her pillows.

(LATER THAT AFTERNOON)

Unbeknownst to Ray Schleine while she cried in her pillows her nanny was also crying in the living room.

*How could she not apologize for what she did to me today* thought Molly to herself. She thought that she and Ray had a special relationship and although in the past there were times when Molly had to spank Ray at least after the spanking was through, Ray apologized for what she did and Molly told her that she was sorry she had to spank her and all was forgiven.

However this was not the case today even though Ray had been soundly punished she still refused to apologize to Molly for what she had done. *Maybe Ray doesn’t care about my fashion career or maybe she just doesn’t care about my feelings* thought Molly to herself. Molly’s thoughts were interrupted by Roma Schleine’s arrival home. Since it was the end of the week, Molly quickly collected her paycheck and exited the Schleine apartment. (She did not reveal the day’s events or Ray’s punishment to Mrs. Schleine as she was too sick to her stomach because of the day’s events to rehash them to anyone) She had thought of trying one last time to talk to (and perhaps smooth things over) with her young charge but ultimately decided not to as she was still too angry at Ray. Besides she thought to herself the person she should really talk to was the hotel manager to find out how much that window would cost so she could give Ray’s mother an estimate of how much the window would cost to repair.

As Molly Gunn stood in front of the shattered window of the Ritz Carlton Hotel she wiped a tear from her eye as she realized that her relationship with Ray might be shattered as well. As angry as she was with Ray and even if Ray refused to apologize for her actions Molly still had to admit to herself that she still loved Ray with all her heart and wondered to herself why Ray just refused to admit and apologize to her for what she did

As she entered the hotel foyer, Molly Gunn searched for the hotel manager but he was nowhere to be found as she turned around she nearly bumped into Mr. Dupree.

Actually she did bump into him as he responded with a loud “Ommph”

“Oh my gosh, Mr. Durpee, I’m sorry are you okay?” stated Molly apologetically.

“Yes I’m fine Miss Gunn it was my fault I’m a bit clumsy although not as clumsy as some” he replied with a chuckle to himself.

Here it comes thought Molly to herself preparing herself for the browbeating Mr. Dupree was about to give her because of Ray’s actions today.

“We sure had some fireworks here today didn’t we Miss Gunn” asked Mr. Dupree with a smile

“Yeah we sure did” replied Molly blushing

“But why did you run off I didn’t get a chance to tell you how impressed I was with your designs” he stated enthusiastically.

“You were impressed with my designs” replied Molly taken aback “I had to take Ray home and after the incident today I thought you’d never want to speak to me again, where is the manager by the way I need to get an estim…” Molly rambled on.

“Why would you have to pay for the broken window Miss Gunn?” asked Mr. Dupree.

“Well because Ray broke it and I…” stated Molly

“No she didn’t that other little brat Thurston whatever his name is broke it” stated Mr. Dupree “The desk clerk spotted him throwing the ball, believe me we got his father down here very quickly and that young man is going to be in a great deal of trouble” he continued with a chuckle.

“So Ray didn’t do anything?” asked a stunned Molly realizing for the first time as to why Ray would not apologize for the broken window.

“No and that’s beside the point, now will you be in later this week so I can contact you about your designs” Mr. Dupree continued.

“Sure” said Molly staring at the floor not really paying any attention to what the designer was saying.

“Very good, by the way Miss Gunn I hope your weren’t too hard on Ray she really is such a cutie pie” said Mr. Dupree as he wandered off to greet a gentlemen across the room.

“No I wasn’t…damn it” said Molly to herself tears welling up in her eyes.

(RAY’s APARTMENT)

Ray Schleine lied in bed crying to herself as she stroked Molly’s pet pig Moo.

“You are all I have left Moo, at least you believe me about what happened today” cried Ray to herself realizing that now not only did her mother not care about her but Molly now probably hated her as well and that’s why she refused to believe her account about what happened at the hotel today.

Still there was no harm in informing her mother about what happened today and telling her that she never wanted to see Molly again. Ray had heard her mother arrive home hours ago but as usual her mother hadn’t come in to check on her. Ray gently climbed off her bed (as her behind was still very sore) and made her way into the hallway.

When she got to the end of the hallway she could hear her mother laughing with someone.

“Mom?” asked Ray in an almost whisper like voice.

Her mother didn’t hear her she was too busy laughing and drinking wine with someone.

“Mom” asked Ray again to much the same result.

“MOM!” shouted Ray.

“Excuse me for a moment” said Roma to her guest “What is it Ray?” asked an annoyed Roma Schleine.

“I just wanted to tell you something” said Ray her voice trailing off.

“Can’t it wait until tomorrow Ray?” asked an annoyed Roma.

“I just wanted to tell…” said Ray.

“Thank you Ray” said Roma interrupting her daughter.

Ray Schleine turned away to walk towards her bedroom.

“Ray where are your manners young lady introduce yourself to Jeffery Oliver, he is a very important man at Capitol Records and…”

“Yeah hi” stated Ray under her breath knowing that no matter how important Jeff might be the only reason her mother brought any guys home was to sleep with them, she then began to walk towards her room tears again welling up in her eyes.

----

Molly Gunn hailed the first taxi she could find and had the driver take her to Ray’s apartment. She had to talk to Ray as soon as possible. Molly felt so guilty for not believing Ray and even worse for spanking her. Molly now realized that it was not Ray who needed to apologize to her but it was she that owed Ray possibly the biggest apology in the world. Even that however Molly thought to herself might not be enough to repair her relationship with her young charge.

Molly Gunn quickly paid the driver the fare and hopped out of the cab and took the elevator up to Ray’s floor. She quickly and frantically pounded on the door hoping that Ray would answer but to her disappointment it was Roma Schleine who answered the door.

“Miss Gunn?” asked a confused Roma Schleine who was still entertaining her guest.

“Mrs. Schleine I need to talk to Ray right now” cried Molly tears streaming down her face.

“I’m sorry Miss Gunn, but Ray has gone to bed for the evening and I’m entertaining right now, you can talk to her on Monday” replied Roma trying to close the door in Molly’s face

“No its really important that I talk with her right now, I have to let her know…”

“Goodnight Miss Gunn” stated Roma slamming the door in Molly’s face.

“Damn her” muttered Molly to herself as she made her way back downstairs crying all the way.

(RAY’s ROOM)

“Fine if my mother won’t listen to me and Molly hates me there is no reason for me to stay here, I’m running away Moo” said Ray to her pet pig.

Moo snorted.

“No I’m sorry I can’t take you with me Moo but you will be happy here a lot happier than I ever was” said Ray as she packed her small knapsack with her favorite dolls, a few shirts and skirts and of course the tutu that Molly had made for her ballet recital. Upon placing the tutu in the bag Ray herself began to cry as she realized that Molly probably hated her now and would not believe her account of today’s incidents no matter what she said.

It didn’t matter Ray thought to herself she was going to run away and that would teach both Molly and her mother a lesson.

Ray Schleine quietly slipped out her window and made her way down the long fire escape.

(OUTSIDE RAY’s APARTMENT)

“Yes that’s right Fifth Avenue, apartment building 1023” Molly Gunn stated into her cell phone.

How could everything get so messed up Molly thought to herself, she fumbled through her wallet looking for some extra cash to pay the cab fare back home with when she found the little red ball that she had placed in her purse earlier in the day. Holding the ball in her hand Molly once again began to cry to herself.

As she began to wipe her eyes with a tissue she noticed to her surprise that her young charge was descending the fire escape directly in front of her.

Ray however, did not see Molly and hopped down the final step on the fire escape and began to make her way down Fifth Avenue.

“Ray?” cried Molly upon seeing Ray.

Ray froze for a moment upon hearing her nanny’s voice. Part of her wanted to run towards Molly and embrace her (Even if Molly didn’t believe her, Ray still had to admit to herself that she loved Molly more than anyone else in the world) but another part of her was still very angry at Molly so she continued to walk down the street.

“Ray where are you going?” asked Molly as she began to follow Ray.

“Get away from me, I’m running away” cried Ray tears beginning to stream down her face.

“At this time of night, like hell you are” cried a concerned Molly.

“You can’t tell me what to do, you hate me” said Ray as she quickened her pace.

“Ray Schleine come back here we need to talk” stated Molly as she chased after Ray as she was not only concerned for Ray’s safety but hated chasing after anyone when she was wearing heels.

“Go away” cried Ray

“I’m not kidding Ray come back here this instant” commanded Molly.

“No” cried Ray running faster

“Ray unless you want a spanking right here right now, I suggest you turn around and come back here” stated Molly in a calm but authoritative tone.

Ray quickly stopped not wanting to talk to Molly at all but also realizing that her nanny didn’t make idle threats. She turned around and began to walk towards Molly

“That’s better, now what is this about me hating you” asked Molly.

“Get away from me” cried Ray angrily as she pushed Molly aside and began to make her way back towards the fire escape “I’m going back to bed” she continued wiping the tears from her eyes.

“You are not climbing that fire escape young lady, its too dangerous” stated Molly to her young charge.

“You can’t tell me what to do…you hate me” said Ray as she sat down on the bottom step.

“Ray, I don’t hate you” cried Molly tears streaming down her face as she stared at her nine year old charge.

“Bullshit” replied Ray.

Molly resisted the urge to scold Ray for her foul language and stated “Ray I talked to Mr. Dupree he told me you didn’t have anything to do with the broken window I believe you okay?”

“Too little, too late” stated Ray refusing even to look at her nanny.

“Ray listen to me you owe me at least that” pleaded Molly.

“I don’t owe you anything” said Ray turning her head away from Molly.

“Fine you don’t owe me anything and I’m a total creep for what I did to you Ray but I am so sorry and I don’t blame you if you never want to see me again but I just needed to tell you I’m sorry okay” Molly rambled on through her sobs.

“So you don’t hate me?” said Ray looking up at her nanny.

“Now where did you ever get that idea?” asked Molly.

“When you refused to believe me today I figured the reason why you did was because you hated me and didn’t want me around anymore” sobbed Ray.

“Why in the world would you ever think that” asked a shocked Molly drawing the child into a hug.

“Because you…mmmph…mmmph” cried Ray sobbing in Molly’s arms

“What?” asked Molly pulling Ray away from her for a moment.

“Because you are more interested in your uptown fashion friends than me, that’s why you tried to send me to Ingrid’s today, that’s why you wanted nothing to do with me at the hotel today and that’s why you spanked me after you refused to believe that I didn’t do anything wrong” cried Ray.

Molly sat there for a moment in shock letting Ray’s accusation sink in before she spoke.

“Ray I’ll have you know that I acted in an extremely selfish way today towards you and instead of apologizing to you and recognizing your needs, I overreacted to something that wasn’t even your fault and spanked you for it…I am so sorry for not believing you today but even if you had broken that window and wrecked my entire day which I’ll have you know you didn’t, it wouldn’t make me love you any less” Molly stated through her sobs.

“Really you don’t hate me?” cried Ray

“God no!” cried Molly lifting Ray on her lap and rocking her in her arms.

“But now that you got hired as a fashion designer by that guy you aren’t going to be my nanny anymore right?” sobbed Ray.

“No, Ray you will always come first in my life and that’s why I told Mister Dupree that I can only work for him when I am not taking care of you and if he couldn’t handle that he could take a hike” stated Molly as she gave Ray a kiss.

“Really?” asked Ray looking up at Molly.

“Yes Ray and that’s the truth” Molly stated.

“I love you Molly” cried giving her nanny a hug.

“I love you too Ray and I’ll never doubt you again, I promise” said Molly returning the hug.

“Okay…” chirped Ray as she hopped off her nanny’s lap “I just got one question” she continued

“Whats that?” asked Molly

“How am I going to get back inside if you won’t let me use the fire escape?”

“That’s simple, we will go through the front door” replied Molly.

“But, Molly my mom is entertaining and if I go in the front door she will know I left and I’ll be in trouble.” stated a concerned Ray.

“I doubt your return home will be a big issue with your mother” said Molly with a smile.

“Why” asked Ray confused.

“I think she will be more concerned with her boyfriend’s car being towed” stated Molly with a laugh as she gestured towards the tow truck towing Jeff’s car away “…he was parked by a yellow curb and some demented individual apparently called the cops on him, now I wonder Ray who could have done that” said Molly with a grin.

Ray laughed.

(OUTSIDE RAY’s APARTMENT)

*KNOCK KNOCK*

“Miss Gunn?” Roma Schleine opened the door surprised to find Molly standing outside.

“Roma I’m so glad you are still awake, I was walking home and noticed that Jeff’s car was being towed away” cried Molly trying to hold back a grin.

“Oh my god, Jeff you car is being towed” cried Roma as both adults made there way down the stairs.

Once they were out of sight Molly called out.

“Okay Ray you can come out of hiding the coast is clear”

Ray Schleine slipped out from her hiding place behind the banister and followed her nanny into her apartment.

“So what now?” asked Molly still grinning over Jeff’s car being towed.

“Tuck me into bed?” asked Ray.

“Sure thing” replied Molly scooping Ray up in her arms and carrying her to her room.

Molly gently placed Ray into bed and tucked her in extra tight.

“I’m so sorry I spanked you today Ray and I’m even more sorry I didn’t believe you” said Molly as she gave Ray a kiss on the forehead.

“Its okay Molly, even grownups make mistakes sometimes, we just all have to be responsible for the mistakes we make so they don’t happen that often” chirped Ray.

“Somehow I think I heard that before…” said Molly with a chuckle “Oh by the way I have something to give you” she continued handing Ray her ball back.

“Thanks Molly” chirped Ray.

“Keep it away from windows” Molly scolded Ray with smile as she flicked on Ray’s nightlight.

“Deal” yawned Ray.

“Goodnight Ray…” said Molly as she gave Ray one last goodnight kiss “…oh by the way you were right about another thing today too Miss Ray” she continued.

“Whats that?” asked Ray.

“When it comes to certain aspects of the fashion world Mister Dupree really doesn’t know his ass from his elbow” said Molly with a chuckle.

“He mustn’t if he’s interested in your designs” replied Ray with an even bigger chuckle.

“Why you little…” laughed Molly as she begun to tickle her young charge.

“I love you Molly” stated Ray giving her nanny a kiss.

“I love you too Ray” said Molly as she flicked off Ray’s light and exited the room.
